The simple reality is that a screw cap all but guarantees that the wine in the bottle - barring great age or a freak accident - will be fresh and clean as the wine maker intended. I've come across about 2-3 "corked" bottles in the last 18 months or so and 2 bad "twist" caps, though one was on a brandy of some sort. Are twist caps good? Sure. But so are corks, which I understand, have gotten even better in quality in the last couple of years.
