Possibly the most popular red wine grape. Less tannins than a typical red wine grape, thus it doesn’t age as well and is quite soft. Makes wines that are easy to drink, especially good for someone just starting to drink reds. Commonly dry, fruity and smooth.

   Heavy for a merlot - much more power than I thought there would be, and a little less fruit. The merlot really fills your mouth when you take a drink, and this would have to be paired with something equally strong - much more similar to a Cab Sav than a Merlot. The winery - Round Hill (St. Helena, CA) states on the back they're committed to sustainability, and give the source for both the bottle (EcoSeries - www.sgcontainers.com ) and the cork (Acquamark - www.corkfacts.com)

   This was a real surprise. On first tasting, if had rich berry tastes--my wife tasted anise. But within seconds those flavors gave way to a lingering bitterness. We tried it with food, and it literally lost all taste! This one got poured down the sink.
